Coromandel Seascape blankets

A friend was visiting and, as she walked up the stairs, saw my art and asked for a blanket in those colours for her new home.

She chose one, one is at Waihi Beach Gallery and I still have the darker blue one here if anyone interested.

Sunset Blankets

Have recently finished a run of blankets for Pauanesia inspired by a sunset.

Warp all tied on ready to roll on the back beam.

I love the view from the back of the loom showing the different hues.

Can I say it, Wow!

Three different wefts scarlet, corally red and stripes.  

The warp is 8 ply (double knit) wool and weft is mohair, all hand dyed.

Blankets Kotare and Huia Bay

Yes, the last blankets for this year are finished and waiting for their forever homes.

Kotare is in Inspirit Gallery.  She is 80% mohair with about 20% wool.

 It always seems to be blowing here especially when I'm in a hurry to catch the mail.

 Lots of mohair makes for a light, warm throw.

 Huia Bay and village are in West Auckland, part of the Waitakeres.

Te Henga Sandstone blankets

When I damaged my leg three weeks and five days ago I had only 65 cm to weave on this run of blankets.  I probably didn't do myself any favours but when I started to improve I slowly wove a few centimetres a day until they were finished.  I could then twiddle the tassels while I had my leg out of action.

 However, I was able to stand and wind warps and work at the dye pot and today we are slowly getting into business.  Less than 1 metre woven and I could feel muscles talking to me so I quit on this Rata warp.

Jenny's Kingsize Kingfisher blanket

To my shame this large Kotare blanket was ordered a year ago but what with other commitments and travelling and summer (who needs mohair blankets in the heat) and knowing it would be a pig to alter the loom it just got neglected.

Sure hope it was worth the wait.

Tekapo blankets

Lake Tekapo lies in the heart of the Mackenzie Country, in New Zealand's central South Island.  Lake Tekapo is the second largest of three roughly parallel lakes running north-south along the northern edge of the Mackenzie Basin.

When I dyed the yarn for these blankets I tried to capture the sun reflecting off the water of the lake giving it a glacial feel.

Pohutukawa blankets

 We have had a very poor showing of pohutukawa flowers this year.  They bloom on last years growth and the trees are covered in new leaves so next year should be a cracker.  Doesn't stop me interpreting pohutukawa in a blanket.

 One has gone with a lovely family to Tokyo

and the second is in Inspirit Gallery waiting for a new home.

Recent creations

'Karapiro'

Karapiro blanket and cushion went to Inspirit Gallery a short time ago.  Warp mainly wool and alpaca and weft mohair, all hand dyed.  Woven two layer twill.

'Pipis and Paua'

As selection for the Bay of Plenty Area exhibition happened yesterday I can show what I entered.  This lamp shade has a very open knitted base fabric attached to the frame and crochet shells attached.
